Music and Alzheimers
The reason Ellen Starski has chosen to work with Alzheimers awareness stems from her own personal experiences with her Grandmothers both being effected by the disease. The opening track, 'Ode to Nanny & Cookie' off of her debut album is a song she wrote for the both of them. The song is metaphorical in the sense that it compares Alzheimers disease to living in a snow globe. The hope is to donate the song to the Associations listed below in order for them to garner more attention towards their cause.
Ellen is a supporter of the Alzheimers Assoc...
"The Alzheimer's Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer's care, support and research. Our mission is to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health."
Ellen is also interested, and has been in talks with the Alive Inside foundation.
"The Alive Inside Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit, dedicated to healing loneliness and disconnection in all our lives, especially in the lives of the very young and the very old living with dementia.
We partner with communities to connect the generations and shift our relationship with life, aging and growing up.
We seek to End Loneliness using Empathy, Music, Life Story, and Film."
Elders sit with Youth.
Youth sit with Elders.
By learning from different minds,
we end loneliness and
transform our endings and beginnings.
